Song for Yule

One waning Winter solstice moon
Walking in the woods at noon
All the leaves around me strewn
Another year has gone too soon
My heart swells with a Celtic tune
Recalling hummingbirds in June

Halloo, Hallay, Halloo, Hallay!
The darkest days are gone away
Halloo, Hallay, Halloo, Hallay!
The Sun returns upon this day

So ends the months of waning sun
Its rays of light returning
We sing the songs of Wintertide
Around the Yule log burning

chorus:

Tis the time for song and mirth
The darkest days descending
We honor now Mabon's rebirth
The Oaken King ascending

chorus:

Gather round and fan the fire
for the Feast o'Folly
The greenman is our honored guest
He brings a bough o'holly

chorus:

Farewell now to the Holly King
With drum and bell a-ringing
And on his hand the Ivy Queen
She joins us in our singing

chorus:
